Visual Inspection (Level One): High powered lights
and mirror are used to detect any defects in the
chimney system. Video Inspection (Level Two) Closed Circuit Scanning: Maybe necessary to detect hairline cracks in flue liners not visible to the eye or defects in flues with offsets or extreme height. When buying or selling a house, it is important to know that the chimney system is up to present day code. NFPA 211 states that "chimneys, fireplaces, and vents shall be inspected once a year for soundness, freedom from deposits, and correct clearances" Traditional sweeping of a chimney flue is done with high powered vacuums and brushes. Mechanical (rotary drill) sweeping is done using a rotary chain whip for more heavy flue deposits. Basic Package: Visual (Level One) inspection of flue requested to be swept by the customer and a traditional sweep of that flue. Basic + Level I Package: Visual (Level One) inspection of entire chimney system and traditional sweep of flue. Basic + Level II Package: Video (Level Two) inspection of flue. Traditional sweep and video inspection of each flue. *Prices are based on accessibility of chimneys and difficulty of the sweep. Runners and drop cloths are always used to protect our customer's homes. Atlantic Chimney, Inc. offers two excellent brands of stainless steel chimney liners. In most installations these liners come with a lifetime warranty and can be installed in less than one day.
*We also offer an aluminum liner for certain gas appliance installations. This comes with a prorated 10- year warranty. According to the NFPA 211 "...if the flue liner in a chimney has softened, cracked, or otherwise deteriorated so that it no longer has the continued ability to contain the products of combustion (heat, moisture, creosote, and flue gases), it shall either be removed and replaced, repaired or relined with a listed liner system...." In cases where a chimney fire caused damage to the liner, homeowner's insurance would pay for the replacement liner. Most insurance companies want homeowners to get two or three estimates. Stainless steel and copper caps carry a lifetime warranty. Caps prevent the entry of rain, snow, animals, and birds. Caps have spark arrestor screens as the primary safety feature that prevent the passage of sparks to the outside atmosphere. Caps, also, can help with wind related downdraft problems. Return a deteriorating or damaged chimney to full code compliance quickly and economically. Whether your chimney needs grinding and tuckpointing or needs to be torn down and rebuilt, we can meet your needs. . We also repair and rebuild deteriorating or damaged steps and walkways. We repair existing flashing with "Flashseal", an Elastomeric Sealant used in conjunction with a reinforcement fabric and warranted for up to 7 years. We will install new lead or copper flashing. The installations include proper base flashing, step flashing, and counter flashing. The most common problem with masonry chimneys is water penetration. Water causes over 1 billion dollars in damage annually in the form of staining, loss of insulation value, and freeze-thaw damage, deterioration and ultimately structural failure. All masonry chimneys are susceptible to water damage. Even if repaired, chimneys will continue to deteriorate if they are not protected. Atlantic Chimney is proud to use Chimney saver Water Repellent to protect our customers' chimneys. Chimney saver Water Repellent prevents water from getting into the brick to cause damage. Instead of forming a seal over the brick, it coats the pores of the brick allowing moisture on the inside to escape. Chimney saver Water Repellent creates a zone that repels water much like two magnets repel each other. One application lasts for up to 10 years. Dryer vents with accumulated lint can be a serious fire hazard. We test the air flow at the vent's termination point with a vane anemometer prior to the cleaning. The vent is removed and cleaned with brushes. Measurements are taken again after the vent is cleaned to document an increased air flow. We will remove leaves and debris from your gutters.
